The Nike Air Max 95 OG Neons have been repurposed over ten times, and after the original release we’ve seen drops in ’97, ’98, ’03, ’06, ’08, ’10, ’12, ’15 and 20', with a very limited amount released in a USA exclusive drop in 2018.
Designed by ACG visionary Sergio Lozano, the inspiration behind the shoe is as intriguing as its design. Picture a rainy day at Nike’s Beaverton HQ, where Lozano drew inspiration from both the elements and the human anatomy. The result? A masterpiece boasting a gradient grey upper reminiscent of eroded rock walls, layered uppers mirroring muscle fibres and flesh, and nylon eyelets fashioned after the ribcage.
“I was looking beyond the lake, to the trees, and I started to imagine the process of rain causing erosion on the land. Then I thought it would be interesting if the perfect product was dug up by erosion ”, says Sergio.
Originally, Lozano chose to make colours as functional as shoes. “In Oregon, people run when it rains, run on trails and, therefore, after the first few kilometres, the shoes already look shabby. I wanted to disguise this appearance a little ”. Always confident in his ideas, Lozano decided to incorporate grey as one of the predominant colours. "I was told that grey didn't sell, and I took it as a challenge." Black and dark grey were used at the base of the shoe, where dirt usually accumulates, while lighter shades were introduced at the top of the model alongside the distinctive pop of neon yellow.
The Air Max 95’s signature shade of neon yellow was chosen as a nod to Nike’s heritage defining racing kit, which continues to feature an array of highly visible colours on track spikes and cross-country flats.
Nike's decision to restock the OG colour way of the Air Max 95 every five years has become somewhat of a tradition eagerly anticipated by Air Max 95 enthusiasts. As the 2025 release approaches, speculation has been rife within the sneaker community, with rumours suggesting that the iconic Air Max bubble may receive a nostalgic nod with a larger size reminiscent of its original 1995 iteration. However, Nike has remained tight-lipped on this matter, leaving 110 fans to eagerly await official confirmation.
Despite the lack of readily available information on the 2025 restock, multiple retailers have reportedly been informed of the impending release, fuelling speculation that 2025 will mark a significant moment for the Air Max 95 OG Neon's.
With 110 prices now starting from £175, we can expect the OG Neons to retail no less than this! Stay updated on this restock by signing up to Air Max 95 restock alerts here at Bennetts.
